Cereus Cacti

For those who love the incredible beauty of the western United States, the night blooming cereus cacti is a fitting close for the year that was 2014.  For one midsummer's night each year, its exquisitely scented flower opens as night falls, then closes forever with the first rays of the morning sun.  Happy New Years Eve to all my family and friends.

December Desert

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name

Rainstorm at Dusk

The first part of August, I made this inner-city pano during a brief respite from the heat.  An uncharacteristic rainstorm blew through just at dusk, when the lights were coming on.  The long exposure and deep shadows resulted in this uniquely colored cityscape.

Super Moon

This shot of the 2012 Super Moon rising behind my favorite tree in the Tallgrass Prairie will never be photographed again.  The last time I was there I was thinking about the upcoming lunar eclipse on 04/1414, only to find that the tree has been downed either by fire or wind (I didn't get close enough to inspect).  One of the very few large trees in the entire preserve, it was my go-to location to sit and wait for good night shots.  Too bad.

The prairie needs the bison...

"The prairie needs the bison to maintain its natural balance as much as the bison need the tallgrass prairie.  This relationship is the starting point for my photographs of the Preserve."  Sample my book or ebook, TALLGRASS PRAIRIE, at http://blur.by/1fx2Ch1.
